Is Rocket League On PS3?
Technically, no. Rocket League was released in July of 2015 for the PS4 and a number of other platforms, but the PS3 was not included among these. That said, what a lot of people don’t know is that Rocket League is a sequel to a game that definitely is available on PS3. Brace yourself for this title….
Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars.
You read that right. It’s quite a mouthful! Released in 2008, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars was the original that spawned Rocket League, but it is missing a lot of the features that make Rocket League such a popular title today. For one thing, you have less skins to choose from on your vehicles.
Online play is an option, but chatting is not – so this takes out another element that adds a lot of the fun from Rocket League when you are playing with friends. It also doesn’t look as sharp as Rocket League, which takes advantage of the additional processing power of the PS4 to deliver you 60 FPS of smooth, smooth gameplay.
That said, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars is still a lot of fun, but it’s a Rocket League Prequel and veteran players of Rocket League will definitely notice the difference.
Is Rocket League Free On PS3?
Rocket League is not available on PS3, unfortunately. If you have a PS4, however, the title is now free to play and this offer is also available for Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and for PC.
Incidentally, you can also get Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars if you use a simple code from Konami.
Just enter the following with your PS4 controller during startup for rocket league:
up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, O, X
Hit your ‘options’ button on the startup screen and you will be greeted with the startup screen for the Rocket League prequel.
Just a little treat for die-hard fans of the game. Give it a try and see what you think. Veteran players are going to notice a lot of the elements that lead to the perfection that is Rocket League and for those players and those who are simply curious, it’s quite the treat!
Can PS3 and PS4 Play Rocket League Together?
No. As there is no PS3 version of Rocket League, cross-platform play is impossible, and while Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars is a prequel to Rocket League these two games are not compatible either.
These games were released about 7 years apart from each other, so they are fundamentally different even if they share some of the same elements.
Will Rocket League Ever Be Released For The PS3?
Currently, there has been no news to indicate that Rocket League will be released for the PS3 at this time. With its high FPS and processor requirements, it is unlikely. While some have speculated that the PS3 could conceivably handle up to 120 FPS, most PS3 games are locked in at a 30 FPS rate – half of what Rocket League currently performs at.
Thus, if it WERE released, it would be substantially slower and a number of features would likely need to be cut. That said, you can definitely still play Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars on the PS3 and it is a fun game… sadly, it’s just not Rocket League quality.
Some Final Words On Rocket League And PS3 Availability
So, there you have it! Today we’ve answered the question ‘Is Rocket League available’ on PS3 and unfortunately, it is not. While there are no plans for release, you can still play the prequel Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars and the concept is essentially the same – soccer with rocket-powered, high-flying cars.
Pick your teams, ready your rockets, and move fast enough to destroy the competition. It’s a soccer experience taken to an insane new level and you are about to see why everyone loves it. Just remember though, if you want to play Rocket League you’re gonna need your PS4!
